The physicians of Yale Therapeutic Radiology (Radiation Oncology), together with Yale-New Haven Hospital, offer the most advanced cancer treatments available at Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center in Guilford.
For decades they have served patients in four community hospitals in Connecticut and are proud of their reputation for compassionate care, patient-focused service and state-of-the-art facilities. They bring that same care to shoreline cancer patients and family members.
Therapeutic Radiology treats 2,700 cancer patients each year throughout the state. It
takes a combined team of technical staff (such as medical physicists and
dosimetrists) and the clinical staff of nurses, radiation therapists, and physicians to provide
consistently high quality treatments and care.
Each physician serves patients and community physicians in a responsive, caring and high quality manner. While their academic affiliation ensures that their clinical skills remain at the cutting edge of advances in the field of oncology, they remain attentive to excellence in delivering patient care. The most recent patient satisfaction surveys indicate the following:
- On a scale of 0-100, Yale Therapeutic Radiology received a score of 95 for overall patient satisfaction. This outperforms approximately 95% of 4,328 other facilities nationally using the same satisfaction survey.
- On the same scale, the question “What is the likelihood of your recommending this practice” received a score of 98.
How Yale Therapeutic Radiology Earns High Marks from Patients
This service has consistently earned high marks from patients. The elements of this successful practice are dedicated staff who like their work, including a core group of hard-working, clinically oriented physicians. Turnover is low – vacancies for certain technical posts in the field hover at 15% nationally but only 2% in this service. They have a cohesive group that works well together and creates an environment focused on the patient.
The patient-focused practice has consult coordinators answering the phone to schedule appointments, give patients directions to the practice and obtain the necessary medical records.
The staff makes the radiation therapy treatments as comfortable as possible for their patients. Patients know if they have a 10:15 appointment, they can come at 10:10, receive treatment and be out by 10:30. The staff works very hard to be on time.

Patient Comments about Therapeutic Radiology at YNHSMC
“I received excellent care – I was made to feel safe, and comfortable during a difficult time in my life. Everyone has a very positive attitude, which helped me to try to stay positive. Many thanks to all!”
“It could not have been a better, more pleasant experience. I feel most fortunate to have been able to go to the Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center for my radiation. Not only is it convenient, but while it is fully professional, the warmth of the staff and the setting, make for a relaxed, un-hospital like atmosphere. The radiation therapists, nurses, and Dr. Higgins were tops!”
“Parking was wonderful. Plenty of spaces and convenient to front door. All personnel are very courteous. They all say “hello” and say their name. Everyone makes you feel very comfortable and they help to make your visit less stressful. The facility is very clean and neat. It was wonderful to go to Guilford!”
“What an incredible team of people. I was surrounded by total support and kindness during my radiation therapy, not to mention professional competence. I was quite nervous when I began my treatment, but at the end I can actually say these wonderful people made radiation fun! I feel truly fortunately to be one of their patients.”
“The facility was excellent and certainly made my course of treatment great in every aspect. Having everything so close to home removed all stress from the whole experience.”
“This department with all of its staff made this period in my life so much easier to deal with. There is no rating that I could give that could come close to the feeling that I have for each of your staff.” |
