Dr. Akar
specializes in diagnosing and treating complex arrhythmias at Yale New-Haven's Heart and Vascular
Center. Dr. Akar's clinical
focus is catheter-based treatment of complex arrhythmias. He is internationally
recognized as a faculty member of the Heart
Rhythm Society Advanced Ablation Course, which is taught to electrophysiologists
worldwide.
Dr. Akar
uses integrated intracardiac echo and 3-D electroanatomic imaging to perform
atrial fibrillation ablation without a cardiac CT scan. This minimizes patient
exposure to radiation and contrast. Dr. Akar leverages the strength of the Yale
team and specializes in ablation of recurrent arrhythmias following prior
ablation or surgical MAZE procedures. He also specializes in ablation of
ventricular tachycardia via an epicardial approach, a procedure not offered
elsewhere in Connecticut.
The Yale
Complex Ablation Program philosophy revolves around total management of complex
arrhythmias including advanced ablation and pharmacological therapy with novel
anti-arrhythmic and anticoagulant agents. Each patient will be evaluated in a comprehensive,
individualized manner taking into account his or her entire medical and
psychosocial history in order to provide an optimal treatment plan.
