Yale Pediatric Surgery currently has four full-time, board certified, pediatric surgeons dedicated exclusively to the surgical care of infants and children. Pediatric surgeons are internationally known for their expertise in neonatal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and care of tumors. They also regularly care for children with more common surgical problems such as hernias, undescended testes, and lumps and bumps requiring removal. Patients may be referred by their primary care doctor or may call the office directly for an appointment. Appointments can almost always occur within one week. All operations are conducted in the Pediatric Surgery Center, located in the Children's Hospital, under the direction of specialty-trained pediatric anesthesiologists. Preoperative visitation and tours of the center can be arranged through the Pediatric Surgery Center. The tours provide an invaluable orientation to pediatric anesthesiology services, the operating suite and the post-anesthesia care unit.
