Gastrointestinal Motility Program

Despite conventional testing and treatment, many common gastrointestinal symptoms go unexplained for many years, thereby impacting on patients quality of life. The Yale Gastrointestinal Motility Program offers specialized testing and treatment for these patients with difficult to manage gastrointestinal conditions.


A comprehensive evaluation is available for a wide array of common and rare gastrointestinal motility disorders including
 
  • achalasia (difficulty swallowing food)
  • gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn)
  • gastroparesis (weak stomach)
  • intestinal pseudoobstruction (abdominal bloating and pain)
  • fecal incontinence
  • small intestinal bacterial overgrowth
 
The multidisciplinary program combines an experienced team of physicians from gastroenterology, gastrointestinal surgery, pathology and diagnostic radiology with the latest in motility testing including:
 
  • high-resolution esophageal manometry
  • esophageal pH-impedance monitoring
  • Bravo capsule pH monitoring
  • Smartpill testing
  • anorectal manometry
  • hydrogen breath testing
