The Winchester Chest Clinic is the primary outpatient practice site for Yale Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
The clinic provides state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment services to patients with tuberculosis, asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, and undiagnosed or general respiratory problems. Patients are seen by pulmonologists who work in close collaboration with Yale Medical Group chest radiologists, thoracic surgeons, diagnostic radiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and pulmonary pathologists to provide definitive diagnoses and therapeutic options across the spectrum of pulmonary medicine.
Many patients also present with work-related pulmonary disease and sleep disorders. Very often patients come to the clinic without a diagnosis, but with symptoms such as persistent or nagging cough, shortness of breath at rest or with exertion. Difficult or unusual problems are thoroughly evaluated by drawing upon the expertise of Yale clinical specialists in other specialties and the extensive library and computer facilities of the university. Any questions that patients and family members may have are addressed in detail. A full report is mailed promptly to referring physicians.
Winchester Chest Clinic appointments are made by physician referral. The physician should refer their patient for evaluation by a pulmonary specialist. Referrals for tuberculosis may be made by physician, health department, or patient self-referral.
