Yale Behavioral Health Services (BHSH) is a licensed, outpatient mental health and substance abuse facility which serves people ages 18 and over with life adjustment issues, relational problems and serious psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. The clinic promotes the resilience and recovery of individuals and their families through culturally competent, strength-based interventions. BHSH is designed to provide evidence-based services in an environment that emphasizes the value, dignity, and rights of the individuals being served. Caring therapeutic relationships and skilled staff are hallmarks of the BHSH approach. Crisis services are available to clients 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Modes of treatment include individual and group therapy. Individuals seeking services are scheduled for an initial evaluation with a clinical social worker. Psychiatric evaluations are conducted as part of the overall intake process. More specialized evaluations are completed as needed.
The staff provides assessment, screening and triage to clients in urgent need of a mental health and/or substance abuse evaluation. BHSH maintains inter-agency agreements with inpatient, partial hospital, and intensive out-patient services in order to help clients access necessary levels of care more easily.
Treatment plans for each person served at the clinic are individualized and developed within a recovery-oriented philosophy. For those suffering from problems of minor or moderate severity, a brief treatment model is utilized to help reduce symptoms, improve functioning, and strengthen connections to natural support systems and local community resources. For adults who have more severe and prolonged forms of mental illness, the staff provides longer-term treatment that can include case management, therapy, family intervention, and referrals for psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation. Treatment is offered through individual, group, and family sessions.
All clients are offered the opportunity to meet with a psychiatrist. If medication is suggested, and the client consents, regular appointments will be scheduled with their prescribing practitioner.
