The major focus of General Pediatrics is providing comprehensive well child care to children living in New Haven. Patients are seen at Yale-New Haven Hospital's Primary Care Center. The section is also responsible for infants in the well newborn nursery at the hospital many infants born at YNHH will go on to have their well child care provided at the Primary Care Center.
Section members are also active in areas closely linked to comprehensive general care, such as: chronic illnesses, behavioral and developmental pediatrics, evaluation and treatment of lead exposure, HIV infection, and Lyme disease. Special programs are provided for children with arthritis, chronic illness and disabilities, and those under evaluation for child abuse and sexual abuse.
Developmental/Behavorial Pediatrics provides clinical consultation for children with developmental or behavioral issues from two developmental/behavioral pediatricians and a clinical psychologist.
The Yale Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs is one of just two in Connecticut. The program's goal is to help families, pediatricians and specialists ensure that children with special health care requirements receive coordinated care. Children eligible for the program have, or are close to, elevated risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional conditions, and require services of the type or intensity not usually needed by children of the same age.|
