Yale Dermatology Associates is one of the largest and most diversified dermatology practices on the East Coast. The members are committed to the advancement of patient care through innovative groundbreaking research and clinical care. For example, photopheresis was developed in the 1980's at Yale for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). This unique treatment is often referred to as "extracorporeal photochemotherapy." The procedure has become an important option for patients with this rare cancer who do not respond to traditional treatments such as electron beam radiation, interferon, and chemotherapy agents.
A dermatologic team offers a systematic approach, through the Pigmented Lesion Clinic, to examine and track patients at risk for melanoma. This program focuses on early detection. Patients are taught to perform whole-body examinations at home and to take an active role in their own health management.
Yale also provides one of the few pediatric dermatology services in southern New England. This service works closely with Yale's many pediatric subspecialties as needs arise.
The Yale Phototherapy Center, the largest of its kind in the region, has treated thousands of psoriasis patients since its inception more than twenty years ago. Patients with psoriasis and other light-responsive conditions are treated with a variety of techniques in a manner that allows them to lead normal lives. A convenient location and flexible appointment times ensure the highest quality of care and service.
