The critical care team is directed by anesthesiology and surgical faculty from the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care as well as anesthesiology and surgery critical care fellows. The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a critical care service that provides perioperative and general critical care for patients on the adult surgical services (excluding the cardiothoracic service). The SICU service covers the general surgical ICU at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a nine-bed intermediate care unit, frequent overflow patients in the adjacent neurosurgical care unit and the Smilow Cancer Hospital.
