Yale Laboratory Medicine provides a complete array of laboratory testing and services for both Medical Center patients and for patients referred from outside the facility. The department is responsible for both medical and technological oversight of the clinical laboratories and the Pheresis/Transfusion Center at YNHH. In addition, consultative services in all areas of clinical pathology, including stem cell collection and processing, endocrinology, toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, hemostasis, virology, microbiology, cellular therapy, transfusion, hematology, tumor markers, molecular diagnostics, proteomics, flow cytometry, and allergy and immunology are offered to referring physicians and institutions.

Special services offered by Laboratory Medicine include:
Cellular therapy including collection, preparation, and storage of stem cells, lymphocytes, and dendritic cells for treatment of malignant and non-malignant disease Apheresis Program, including plasmapheresis, exchange transfusion, leukapheresis, autologous blood donation and blood transfusion along with a therapeutic infusion service Molecular and proteomic diagnostic testing for a variety of genetic, hematologic, infectious and other diseases Prenatal testing, coordinated with the Department of Genetics Flow cytometry and full service hematopathology interpretation for the diagnosis of blood, lymph node, and bone marrow dyscrasias Interpretation of and consultation on: endocrine function toxicology, including drugs of abuse immunologic disorders transfusion medicine coagulopathies and viral diagnostics
