Emergency Medicine

Yale Emergency Medicine provides the medical staff for the adult emergency department at YNHH and Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center. Faculty members are board eligible or certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. They are responsible for the evaluation and treatment of all patients who come to the Emergency Room.

The Emergency Room sees over 70,000 patients a year, with services ranging from critical to urgent care. The facility includes a fully equipped trauma bay, an Urgent Care Center, and a Crisis Intervention Unit. It also has a Chest Pain Center for timely evaluation of patients with symptoms that may be related to ischemic heart disease, and offers 24-hour primary angioplasty services for patients with acute ST elevation myocardial infarctions. The Emergency Medical Services and the emergency room staff in collaboration with the YNHH Acute Stroke Team deliver rapid acute stroke diagnosis and treatment of acute stroke 24 hours a day. Members of the section also provide direct medical oversight to paramedics in the field via radio and telephone. This service does not accept private patients.
